Namib Rand Nature Reserve Safari Holidays in Namibia

To the south-west of Namibia’s capital Windhoek, close to Sossusvlei, lies the NamibRand Nature Reserve, one hour’s flight by aircraft. To the west the Reserve shares a common border with the Namib-Naukluft Park, over a distance of nearly 100 km.
The particular attraction of NamibRand is the diversity of different desert landscapes found in one cohesive region. Virtually all facets of the Namib Desert are represented here. Expansive sand and gravel plains and endless stretches of grass savanna alternate with majestic mountain ranges and vegetated dune belts of deep red sand
The NamibRand Nature Reserve originated as a dream of extending the desert frontiers by integrating a large number of former sheep farms and developing a wildlife sanctuary free of fences. Once again the wildlife was able to roam its natural habitat unhindered. Inviting nature lovers from all over the world to share in this dream has always been one of our objectives, and today NamibRand is synonymous with some of Namibia’s - if not Africa’s - most breathtaking locations.
The variety of flora and fauna is as fascinating as the colour nuances of the landscape, which continuously change, as the day progresses. This unique, ever-changing diversity cannot be captured in photographs or on film, nor can it be given justice in articles or guidebooks - it can only be experienced on the Reserve itself.
Game species found in the reserve include gemsbok, mountain and plains zebra, springbok, red hartebeest, bat-eared fox, spotted hyena, Cape fox and African wildcats. The more rocky areas are inhabited by kudu, klipspringer, baboon and leopard, while the dunes harbour a rich and diverse micro-fauna. Over a hundred species of birds have been recorded
