Okonjima Bush Camp

Okonjima is a family run lodge and home of the AfriCat Foundation. The Bush Camp was built in 2001 and Each EXCLUSIVE chalet enjoys complete privacy and is a combination of earthy, ochre walls and khaki-green canvas, under a thatched roof.

West of the Waterberg Plateau Park and nestled amongst the ‘Omboroko Mountains’ lies Okonjima. Set within 22,000 hectares of private conservancy this unique lodge offers a unique opportunity for it’s guests.

Not only is Okonjima a luxury lodge, but is also home to the AfriCat Foundation, a non-profit organisation committed to long term conservation of Namibia’s large carniviores, especially cheetahs and leopards.

Okonjima was winner of 2004-World Travel Award as Namibia’s Leading Safari.

Day 1
Transfer from Windhoek or your previous destination to Okonjima. After afternoon coffee, tea and cake - ‘radio-track’ Leopards from our game-viewing vehicles. The leopards roam freely and catch their own prey within the 4500 ha private Rehabilitation Area.
After dinner - join us at the nocturnal hide where you may view ’Nightlife’ such as porcupine honey-badgers and caracal, amongst others
Day 2
After brunch - you are welcome to go on one of our Self-guided Walking Trails of up to 8 km, or do some birding - identify some of the more than 250+ species in the area, including Namibian endemics – Carp’s Black Tit, Hartlaub’s Francolin and the Damara Rock Runner.
After afternoon coffee, tea and cake - visit The Cheetah Project, which offers you valuable insight into the welfare work of The AfriCat Foundation
Day 3
The following morning (day of departure) - you are invited to participate on foot in the radio-tracking of the rehabilitated cheetahs on the Cheetah Tracking Trail. Depart for your onward journey

Access and Distance

  • Located half way between Windhoek and Etosha National Park. The road is excellent tar from Windhoek (approx 2.5 hours) and the same from Etosha (3 hours). There is a 24km gravel road to lodge and Bush Camp is located 3km from Okonjima Main Camp

Accommodation

  • 8 luxury, thatched African-style chalets with mini-bar, telephone, private safe, a queen-size bed as well as a 3/4 bed in each chalet
  • The front 180° of canvas panelling may be rolled up for a spectacular view
  • All chalets are between 80m -100m apart from each other
